Waitara is a suburb on the Upper North Shore of Sydney, 23 kilometres north-west of the Sydney CBD, in the local government area of Hornsby Shire. Waitara railway station is on the North Shore, Northern & Western Line of the Sydney Trains network.
A small group of shops are handily located in Waitara’s centre, and include a small supermarket, green grocer, hardware store and bottle shop as well as services like hair and beauty salons. Additionally, Waitara is a home to a range of car dealerships, mechanics and repair services. Westfield Hornsby is a short drive away. It’s home to a large fresh food market area as well as several supermarkets. The centre also houses major department stores and over 300 speciality stores.
Waitara Park contains a well-maintained oval, cricket wicket, tennis courts and as well as a fairly large grandstands. Leonard Park and Unwin Park on the other hand have been designed for those who like their parks for unwinding. The suburb also offers a gym – the Millennium Health Club and locals also enjoy ready access to a wide range of competitions played in the northern suburbs including netball, basketball, tennis, AFL, rugby, and athletics.
Waitara offers a great range of childcare services. Several long daycare providers operate here including Explore and Develop Childcare, Centacare Childcare and Twinkletots Childcare. Waitara Public serves the educational needs of local kids from kindergarten to year six, as does Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic School. Secondary education is provided by a range of public and private schools in neighbouring suburbs, including Asquith Boys, Asquith Girls, Barker College and Loreto Normanhurst. Residents are also within easy reach of The Northern Sydney Institute of TAFE, which has a campus close to Hornsby railway station. Macquarie University, Sydney University and the University of Technology Sydney can all be reached directly by train.
